#PLAYitForward to Support Equitable Access to Recreation
A donation to PLAY Boulder on Colorado Gives Day will directly support the work of our Access pillar, which strives to expand access to recreation for all and make sure everybody in Boulder has a chance to play and live a healthy, active lifestyle! Our Access pillar encompasses several programs, including PLAYpass, EXPAND, and YSI.
In 2022, we made great strides in expanding the reach of our PLAYpass program, which awards non-cash vouchers to eligible youth to be used towards the cost of registration for sports & recreation programs. In late May, 125 participants were on the PLAYpass waiting list due to the long-lasting effects of COVID. At this time, we implemented a new structure in the program that allowed us to successfully remove all 125 participants from the waitlist by the end of June!
To date, PLAYpass has approved 391 participants and currently has 268 participants who are actively participating at one of our 17 service providers. In 2023, the PLAYpass application structure will be updated to include two application rounds - one for the Winter/Spring session, and one for the Summer/Fall. By splitting the program into two application rounds, we hope to reach more of our returning and new participants so they can all get out and PLAY! In the new year, we will continue strategizing new ways to update the program so we can continue to advocate for our participants' needs and wants, and bridge the health equity gap.
