Become a community ambassador for trees and nature! The Community Forestry Corps empowers local youth to care for new tree plantings, while acquiring knowledge about the power of nature to combat climate change, as well as learning about potential career pathways in urban forestry and nature-based climate solutions.
Modeled after team-based programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930’s, the National Civilian Community Corps of the 1990’s, and local programs such as the Boulder County Youth Corps and the City of Boulder Junior Rangers, the Community Forest Corps will gain skills related to tree care, scientific data collection, public speaking, community organizing, and more in this summer job program hosted by the PLAY Boulder Foundation's Tree Trust.
You will be joining a team of tree lovers with goals to develop future environmental leaders, and strengthen our communities’ resilience to climate change by caring for trees and promoting a healthy urban canopy for years to come.

CFC Crew Leaders: ($20/hour wage)
Paid jobs for youth aged 18-24
40 hours a week for 9 weeks:
June 3rd - August 9th; Optional work the week of July 4th
Mon - Fri, 8:00am to 4:00pm
Crew Leader training: May 13th - 17th, 28th - 31st
Meetup Location: TBD
CFC Crew Members: ($16/hour wage)
Paid jobs for for youth aged 14-17
28 hours a week for 9 weeks:
June 3rd - August 9th; Optional work the week of July 4th
Tues - Fri, 8:30am to 3:30pm
Crew Member training: May 28th - 31st

Work outside and connect with the natural world - Crews will spend three days a week caring for and maintaining urban trees in parks, at schools, and in communities, along with additional tasks such as removing weeds and collecting neighborhood heat data.
Earn a paycheck - The CFC is a real job commitment with competitive wages.
Develop life skills - Develop essential skills like teamwork, leadership, punctuality, public speaking and more.
Learn about trees, climate change, and career pathways - CFC crews will have the opportunity to learn about nature-based climate action and career pathways from local professionals and experts.
Engage with racial equity and inclusion efforts - Learn about racial equity and climate justice efforts, and how they relate to our communities.
Enhance and support your community - Participate in actions that will help build community resilience to climate change and create long-term benefits for the community.
Become a nature ambassador - The CFC empowers local youth with the skills to be leaders, advocates, and stewards for the natural world in their schools and communities!

Crew Leader Job Qualifications:
Must be 18 years or older by program start date.
Bilingual - English/Spanish.
Have and maintain a valid drivers' license with at least three years of experience regularly operating a vehicle by yourself (do not count Driver’s Permit hours) and an acceptable motor vehicle record. You will be responsible for driving minors.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience working collaboratively as part of a team and making joint decisions where all voices are heard.
Ability and desire to work with high schoolers (ages 14-17) and young adults (ages 18+).
Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds in a fair, supportive, and cooperative manner.
Commitment to safety - ability to perform risk and hazard analysis and implement proper safety controls; ability to judge weather conditions. Adheres to department and program policies in regard to safety.
Team player - has interest, skill, and success in getting groups to work together. Approaches interactions with curiosity and openness and willing to share and receive information.
Demonstrates commitment to mentoring others, answering questions, and providing a safe space to learn.
Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions by recognizing needs, assessing possible methods to meet needs, and acting on solutions.
Skills in flexibility, humility, and adaptability: openness to different and new ways of doing things; willingness to modify one’s preferred way of doing things. Responsive to feedback; coachable. Able to function effectively when directions or priorities change quickly.

Crew Member Job Qualifications:
At least 14 years old and NO MORE than 17 years old by program start date.
No previous work experience is necessary, but a positive, motivated attitude is essential.
Demonstrate excitement, commitment, and a determination to learn, work, and behave professionally to the best of your ability if chosen for the program.
Ability to learn safe practices and make good judgments related to safety.
Ability to follow through on commitments and instructions. You must commit to a full season of work without missing any days.
Strong interest in being a team player; you are willing to help with less-fun tasks.
You must have or be able to get a social security number, green card, or DACA documentation.
You must have a personal (not parent) email address to apply for this job. Please create one now if you do not have one.
English and/or Spanish speaking.
Willing to take your skills and knowledge to return to your school and community to teach your peers about the CFC program, and nature-based solutions to climate change.

Community Forestry Corps crew are paid an hourly wage. The 2024 wage scale is:
Crew Leaders: $20.00/hour
Crew Members: $16.00/hour
Returning Staff:
Second Year: +$0.25/hour
Third Year: +$0.50/hour
Fourth Year: +$0.75/hour

An application and personal interview are required for consideration for both Crew Leader and Crew Member positions. No previous work experience is necessary, but a positive, motivated attitude is essential.

About the Tree Trust
The Tree Trust is a program led by the PLAY Boulder Foundation to work with citizens to support trees in Boulder and promote a healthy urban canopy for years to come.
Tree Trust’s goal is to provide citizens with resources to care for their trees, tools to recognize and prevent developing diseases in the area, and the aid to retain and expand a sustainable urban canopy. Plans are underway to help expand and sustain Boulder’s urban canopy by forming new community partnerships with Cool Boulder.

Become a Tree Tender and Tree Champ
Trees in our community spaces need to be maintained. Our Tree Tenders volunteer their time to keep trees healthy and growing strong! The Tree Tender program educates and empowers citizens to take care of their local trees. By becoming a volunteer Tree Tender, you will:
Learn tree planting, care, and maintenance
Facilitate tree distributions
Lead volunteers in planting projects
